This is a keeper. I can’t believe I never came across this before--he basically thought of everything I have thought before I did. The book is about how to cultivate a more productive mind; that your mental attitude is related to your success in a lot of ways. And I thought his insights were really practical.
Here are a few:
--About your success, “you must not wait to act until you have proof —you must act as if it’s already there and it will come through”
--Do everything you can to prepare, and t

Probably the most impactful book I've ever read. I read the 1960 edition, but it has been updated several times; however the underlying premise still holds true: 'A human being always acts and feels and performs in accordance with what he imagines to be true about himself and his enviroment.' Our nervous system reacts appropriately to what we think or imagine to be true. If we can change the vision of ourselves, others, and our environment, we can rise to success, and become better people.

Loy Machedo’s Book Review – Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life by Maxwell Maltz
Tell me this.
What were you doing in the year 1975?
Or better say, what were you doing in the year 1960?
Sounds too early?
Well then, would you believe that the author of this book died in the year 1975?
Or would it be more shocking to know that the book carries the copyright date of 1960?
May be that is why the 1st impression of the book is pretty bad. In fact, I would say it is downright pathetic

Although I've read several self-help and development books and am a fan of these kinds of books I didn't really believe that they could help me , i only considered them as an insight and a different perspective of life and towards the problems we face, but this has definitely changed with this book
In psycho- cybernetics as its name implies, it guides you through a journey of exploring how does the human mind perceive the environment and it is psychological makeup .

This is like the mitochondrial Eve of self-help books; the core ideas of every other (non-spiritual) self-help book have been hiding in here since 1960. (Now I'm sure many of the ideas are even older than this, but it's like they all converged in this one book to save us the trouble of having to hunt them down from older books.)
There are a few inevitable anachronisms that have seeped in over the last half-century, but once I just let that slide I found this to be a really solid book of advice f

This was one of the best books (and most helpful) I have ever read in my life. It has been a life changer for me. I strongly recommend this book to anyone struggling with a poor self image or lacking confidence. This book will change your life. I can only thank the author so much for writing it and sharing! Why dont they teach some of this in schools? I dont know?

totally mind changing book..packed with alot of big ideas
one of the most mind blowing ideas. is that we are all Self-Hypnotized & we need to De-Hypnotize oneself
Quote: “It is no exaggeration to say that every human being is hypnotized to some extent, either by ideas he has uncritically accepted from others, or ideas he has repeated to himself or convinced himself are true. These negative ideas have exactly the same effect upon our behavior as the negative ideas implanted into the mind of

Everything is possible if you believe.. the power of the mind is incredible. Amaze yourself. We are capable of so much more than we are taught to believe. If only they taught this in school. This is what we should be teaching our kids. Psychocybernetics doesn't teach you what to think, but HOW to think in such a way that your entire life will be transformed. Improve yourself in any area, sports, your job, your love life, simply by readjusting your approach to the world. Maxwell Maltz exposes th..more

The premise is that there exists an internal blueprint, a self-image, that lays at the foundation of thoughts, behavior, and feeling. This said self-image can be changed, the book maintains, by creative imagination and goal-oriented action. The message and techniques are simple enough and might be more or less useful. I am well aware that a practical book shouldn't be judged by its theoretical underpinnings, but by how certain actions are more or less likely to produce the advertised effect, whi..more
I was contemplating on reading this book because the title sounded a bit 'psycho-ish'. This was recommended by John Sonmez on the top 10 books every programmer should read. This and other series of books he recommended had nothing to do with programming.
Written by Dr.Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon who during his illustrious career uncovered a lot of psychological reasons behind why one would opt for a surgery and the science behind our perception of our own self - our self-image. He explains w

Great book for investigating ways to train your mind to be more positive and confident. I found it especially useful after my Great Depression (worse than the one in the late 20's early 30's!). It's a very practical read but in no way boring if you're interested in improving your focus, mental acuity, and overall mental outlook on life.

The first half of the book blew me away. I thought I was reading the greatest self-book of all time. A brilliant (and from personal experience, very effective) concept, fascinating examples (including tales from the authors previous career as a plastic surgeon) and a very interesting explanation of the power of hypnosis. Sadly, the brilliant insights start to tale off about halfway through and we're left with a lot of common sense chapters that didn't really need to be written. The book picks up..more

“Creative striving for a goal that is important to you as a result of your own deep felt needs, aspirations and talents (and not the symbols which the ‘Joneses’ expect you to display) brings happiness as well as success because you will be functioning as you were meant to function. Man is by nature a goal-striving being. And because man is ‘built that way’ he is not happy unless he is functioning the way he was made to function—as a goal-striver. Your Self-Image And How It Affects You
Psycho-Cybernetics: Your Mind And Its Automatic Guidance System
1. It is our self-image that prescribes our limits. And achieving a positive self-image--the life instinct, rather than the destructive instinct--is within the capability of every man, woman, and child.
2. Maltz determined that the human brain and nervous system function as a kind of servomechanism, a goal-seeking device like those used to guide airplanes on automatic pilot. This is why

Over the years many recovery/psychology trends and fads have come and gone. Pyscho-Cybernetics, in spite of its strange name that initially turned me off, has stood the test of time, and in fact has given birth to a thriving self-help movement that draws upon Mr. Maltz's theories of visualization and forgiveness.
Mr. Maltz, a plastic surgeon, came to believe that inner scars - many of us have them - affect people has much as ugly, external ones. He then describes how we all have to power to remov

Maxwell Maltz's magnum opus guides you in applying rational thinking to achieve your goals and develop an accurate and healthy self-image.
Maltz believes that success will be automatic, if you use your brain properly. Inside your head is an automatic success mechanism that seeks to achieve goals. Your role in the process is to use the conscious mind to choose what goals you set and then you get out of the way and let your automatic success mechanism do its thing.

This was a very meaningful book when I read it as a youth. About 3 years ago I went through our library and found that we had three copies of this book. (Since it was a childhood favorite, I had collected some extra copies.) I handed a couple of copies to my wife and children and asked them if it was any good. Now three years later, I still don't have a report back, So: It's time for me to reread it to see how well it stands the test of time.
The result: It passes. I was surprised how many tim

Despite what some other reviewers have written I don't think this book is boring. Actually at first I thought it was going to go down the same logic as something like the secret but then I quickly realized that it wasn't like that at all. It was more about how your attitude and your neural pathways influenced the outcome of situations and how you can gain better control of that with interactions. Which was pretty fun to delve into even if I didn't agree with all of his points. Worth looking into..more

Probably the foundation for most self-help classics still in vogue today. It even uses the same cliches in its style such as using way too many analogies, repeating the same concept over and over in different ways, and making promises of how the techniques described are going to change your life and never actually getting to explain them in depth. You know how this works.
All the same, the main concept of the book is quite interesting and there are a few ideas to keep.

If this book had been written yesterday, I wouldn’t be that impressed. That said, Psycho-Cybernetics is definitely a product of its time. It’s almost like discovering a self-help time capsule! It has a few great ideas, combined with a ton of ridiculous late-50’s, early 1960’s parapsychology twaddle that will make you smile, if you’re the cynical sort.
Still, in between dated references to psychic abilities, the psychology itself is very down to earth. I would highly recommend it to anyone intere

Just like its inspiration, Press Gothic aims to be a fresh alternative to big economical poster fonts with clear sans serif forms and an urgent, strong, yet elegant design appeal. In the summer of 2008, Press Gothic underwent a major linguistic and aesthetic reworking for an international publishing company. The result of this on the retail side are new small capitals and biform/unicase additions to the main font, as well as expanded language support that includes Cyrillic, Greek, Turkish, Baltic, Central and Eastern European, Maltese, and Esperanto.

Press Gothic Pro, the OpenType version, combines all three fonts into one, taking advantage of the small caps feature, and the stylistic alternate feature for the biform shapes.
