The Ithaca Model 37 in U.S. Military Service. By Bruce Canfield - Monday, May 18, 2015. The World War II-production Model 37 trench gun serial numbers ranged from 57,820 to 61,450.

Hi, This is my first post here in Shotgun area. Yesterday I won auction on Ithaca 37. It will arrive in month, so no pictures yet.

What I know: SN: 976xxx should be manufactured in 1967 receiver plain, no engraving, looks like parkerized. Barrel: 18.5' no front sight Heat shield and bayonet lug mounted (I do not expect it to be original, rather later addition). No military proof marks Flat metal butt plate. I bought it because I have unfulfilled desire to have Trench Gun in my collection. Those are rare in Europe and priced accordingly. Gun is from the estate sale in Germany. At least number is between order for USN/USMC from May 1966 and contract from 1967.

I could not find serial number range for that last small contract other than around 980xxx I have also found information in one of the articles from AmericalRifleman.org 'Ithaca also made a number of essentially identical Model 37 trench guns for the civilian and law enforcement markets that were not stamped with martial markings and were in a higher serial number range.' I am wondering if there were any shotguns in trench gun configuration with 18.5' barrel?

Military contracts had 20' barrels. Anyway, if it is somebody's homework I will add swivels and pretend that it is 'true' trench gun.

Max payne 3 highly compressed 10mb speed 2. I would not change it if it is original configuration. How was carried ammunition for trench gun? What should i look for to make complete Vietnam era set? - Springfield bayonet 1917, that i know.

what kind of ammo pouches/bandolier - what kind of sling I have 'almost original' 1911 made by Norinco and I am negotiating with my wife to get one of M-16A1 in semi-auto made from US Army leftovers in Germany. I'm not familiar with the serial number ranges but based on the fact that you say there is no front bead, I believe your gun barrel may have been cut down, from a longer length. There were also riot guns made with shorter barrels that did not have heat shield or bayonet lug. All this being said, pulling together a representative 'pretend' display shouldn't be too hard. I think you would be just fine if you wanted to add swivels.

You could also look for a reproduction M1907 sling for it-that would look pretty good, I think. You could add this pouch for ammo: research US M1956 load carrying equipment. That should offer most of what you are looking for. After long delay I have it in my hands, partially striped and cleaned (i did not removed stock and internals, just magazine tube, barrel, heatshield.) I went to the range today and tested if it is working without mounting heatshield. yes it is working, but safety is not working - i can fire in both positions - time for visit to the gunsmith My big surprise - the barrel is marked 2 3/4' 'Full' I have never seen 18.5' shotgun barrel with full choke I did not noticed this because in my short experience short barrels are always cylinder.

My mistake I have run maybe a box of sport shot shells number 9 number 7 1/2. Light 24g loads. Then I decided to shot couple slugs, nothing hot 12/70 28g slug. First went ok, second after running couple more shot shells was not extracted after shooting. Caused jam, because next shell was loaded. I have disconnected barrel and pushed out empty shell.

It had nice signs of overpressure - rim was not flat disk but more like triangle in cross section, brass base was bulged at the area where it was not supported in the chamber - where extractor would go. As the additional 'benefit' I have found where the original bead sight was screwed in - it was soldered and blown off when shooting without heatshield. 2 Questions to the learned members of this forum: - have you ever seen Ithaca 37 with 18.5' or 20' barrel with description 'Full' - does it mean Full choke or 'full pressure' or something else? - What was standard max pressure for 12ga shotgun with 2 3/4 inch chamber made 1967? I never buy shells longer than 70mm (2 3/4). For the 'kick' I have Mississippi 1842 replica Those slugs were weird, and i know why - 28g/1oz slug with velocity 380m/1246ft = 1500 feet-pounds and this is 63.5mm (2 1/2) long shell.

It is sporting load for IPSC Shotgun so you can squeeze 12 shells into shotgun with 28' barrel and magazine tube extended 2-3 inches before end of barrel while still meeting limit 1320mm total length. Speed is not translated into pressure but this shell is designed for modern 76mm/3' shotguns so pressure may be higher than is good in old models. This was also cheapest slug available with low brass base from the vendor who caused problems with extraction for those shooting a bit faster than trap or skeet.Perhaps just too soft brass base.

After seeing new hole which was not there before (drilled and soldered later hole for bead sight) I was concerned if those 3 groves under barrel for 3 imbus screws tightening heatshield are not weakening barrel if they are not 'propped' from outside by screw. What I know: SN: 976xxx should be manufactured in 1967 receiver plain, no engraving, matte blued Barrel: 18.5' no front sight marked 'Full', no rib. Probably cut from longer barrel. Heat shield and bayonet lug mounted (I do not expect it to be original, rather later addition). Stock lacquered 'high polish', no checkering No swivels.

No military proof marks Flat metal butt plate. After operations already endured it should endure mounting rear sling swivel and maybe replacing lacquer with oil. Nice addition to my 'almost original' US collection (Italian BP and nitro replicas, Eibar clone of S&W in.455, Beretta 92F, Norinco M305, Norinco CQ, Norinco M1911,Norinco 1887). 'Full' marking on a short barrel means only 1 thing, that the barrel was shortened from a longer barrel. It is cylinder bored since the choke portion of the barrel was removed.

Uniop exor designer 6 software. Make sure you only shoot 2 3/4 inch shells and replace your extractor spring. The heat shield is not a required part of the shotgun it is an accessory. I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure that I once owned a 37 that was from either the Illinois state prison system or Ill state police, that was parkerized and had a short full choke barrel. Was either 18 1/2 or 20 inches long and was not cut down. Anybody else verify this?
